Paolo Crepax asimmetrico vase. The vase made of two separate parts joined together called incalmo. The upper section is in fume, an earthy amber very rare, the lower part in a light amethyst.
Beautiful organic shape with a light asymmetry.
Paolo is famous for his ability with the incalmo technique. He is just considered the best. This technique is based on joining two cups on the edge rim and making a perfect joint so that it can be blown as an unique piece. Famous incalmo pieces are the Tapio Wirkkala bolle for Venini.
The limit of the incalmo is that the perfect fusion of the two cups requires to piece to be perfectly round of the same diameter and after the joint the result piece is too cold to allow more working.
Here Paolo astonishes with a slightly asymmetric incalmo with a wonderful organic elegant shape.
The flap in the middle comes from merging a closed vase with an open bowl and by itself that is already unique.
Paolo started working for Livio Seguso and have made wonderful collections for Missoni and Vistosi.
A masterpiece of glassmaking that a handful of person can make. No one at this level. Yet an elegant piece with a rare modern color that would brighten any space. Over a console or on a cocktail table.
