This painting was made by Dino Martens for Carlo Nason family.
The only large painting from Dino Martens, for a Dino Martens collector to match the collection.
Signed Dino Martens 958.
Very large, pictures the Island of Tessera, a private island near Murano.
The island of Tessera is one of the perimetric forts of Venice defense. It was abandoned and then bought by private and transformed into a private island with villa. Today whoever goes to Venice from the Airport (of Tessera) passes in front of this beautiful gem. At the time of the painting the airport was in the phase of construction and is was considered a hidden place of peace. Dino knew that once the airport would have been built this would not be a peaceful and isolate island, and maybe that is the reason to pick this subject, after his revolutionary years following the futurism and his Ethiopian period. A pastoral landscape with the rower and the waterlilies, to witness a world in the phase of unwilling change but in its destiny. In a way the same idea that stands behind Turner’s “The Fighting Temeraire”. Not a warrior ship going to be demolished but a landscape of peace (for a Murano living person) before loosing all his magic. No obvious sunset to lead to interpretation, but I see something in the idea.
Consignment piece. Carlo assigned the value considering the rarity of the piece and the costant and growing success of Dino Martens designs. I am honored to be appointed to coordinate and make available this painting.
There are some Oriente vases around but only this painting Carlo said.
